The National Housing Commission is the federal instance in charge of coordinating the duty of residence promotion, as well as applying and taking care that the federal government objectives and goals are accomplished as regards of housing, shaped at the 2007-2012 Housing National Program: Towards a sustainable housing development.
It was created in July 2001 with the name: National Commission of Housing Promotion (Conafovi in Spanish), and in June 2006 it was transformed to the National Housing Commission (Conavi in Spanish), decentralized organization, of public usefulness and social interest, not sectorized with legal personality and self patrimony.
According to the housing law, issued in June 2006, the Conavi has among its attributions, to supervise that the housing actions are performed with full care for the urban development, the territorial ordinance and the sustainable development.
Likewise, it has the duty to promote and harmonize with the public, social and private sectors, programs and actions related to housing and ground just as to develop, execute and promote financing, subsidy and previous saving for housing schemes, mechanisms and programs.
In like manner, the Conavi has the responsibility of promoting the expedition of official mexican norms as regards of housing; to encourage and support measures that promote the housing quality; to conciliate the simplification of procedures and steps for the integrating development of housing projects and to establish institutional bonds, technical assistance agreements and exchange of information with national and international organisms.
In the immediate term, the Mexican government has established the following objective: to satisfy the housing demand for new homes that will be created between 2007-2012, as well as to bring down the deficit that has been carrying away in the subject. Likewise, to set the basis for the sustainable development, with the aim that the housing growth do not put in risk the natural patrimony for the next generations; consolidate the National Housing System, with the objective of doing more efficient the efforts in the public sector as regards of housing development and above all, to consolidate a policy, so that the mexicans with less resources have a housing solution according to their payment capacity.
